10 Creative Projects for Homeschool Kids (Ages 7–14)

When the homeschool day stalls, a project is almost always the answer. Here are 10 our students love - pulled from the workshops we run every week.

1. Build a 4-panel storyboard

Pick any object in the room. Tell its story in 4 drawings. No words allowed in panels 1–3.

2. Redesign a household problem

Find one thing in your house that frustrates your kid. Sketch a better version. Build a paper prototype.

3. Run a backyard business for a day

Lemonade is fine, but try a 'idea stand': customers pay $1 to hear your child pitch a new invention.

4. Make a 'how to' video

Pick something they're great at. Plan it, film it on a phone, and show it at family dinner.

5. Design a cereal box for a made-up cereal

Front, back, sides - including the goofy nutrition facts. Surprisingly hard. Surprisingly fun.

6. Write a children's book for a younger sibling

Real audience, real deadline. Bonus: laminate the pages.

7. Build a simple machine from junk drawer parts

Rubber bands, cardboard, tape, paper clips. Goal: make something move.

8. Map a dream city

Hand-drawn map, named streets, hidden details. Combines geography, art, and storytelling.

9. Pitch night at the dinner table

Each kid pitches one new idea in 60 seconds. Family votes. Winner picks dessert.

10. Create a comic strip about your week

Four panels. Funny exaggeration encouraged. Save them - you'll cherish these later.
